Project St-Inca - cab refit, lots of sweating and swearing!

So...progress is being made…Saturday  I set about getting the cab of the van finished, to console myself that the wheels and suspension weren’t finished in time for this year's Limerick show…

Friday night, me and Dylan resprayed all the interior trim pieces in sexy satin black Hycote…

Here’s how it all looked Saturday morning….

Stripped out the old paint-stained seats and lobbed ‘em on the rubbish pile – also ripped out all remaining trim and scrubbed it all with plenty hot soapy water, then treated them all to a bit of vinyl dressing before refitting.

I scrubbed the shit outta the carpets and remaining trim and then moved onto the refit…new cup holder centre console, Mk3 Golf VR6 front seats (which I was assured were a handy fit – they weren’t, due to the steel beam running across the front of the load floor; lots of sweating, straining, cursing and brute force sorted that), refurbed door cards, refurbed overhead shelf, roofliner, door handles , the whole nine yards! Hell I even threw a non-sunroof Mk4 Golf interior rooflight into the headliner while I was at it – I was on a roll!

9 hours later (OK, there were a lot of coffee and smoke breaks which probably accounted for about 3 and a ½ hours!) this is how she looked…time for a little reward after working in the hot sun all day, and what better than Clonmel Chardonnay with which to do it, eh?

So now, it’s a much better place to be than when I picked her up...gone are the old smells of neglect and the seats are much more comfortable and supportive on a long drive.

Next on the list – get the rear fit-out done in time for me and Dylan’s road trip to Inters at the end of June!

RETRO-VAGENS...........huh??!!

So why do this? Why draft a blog? Well....................why not??!!

At this stage, I've had a fair number of old VW's pass in and out of my life, that I've put my own 'take' on......

Paint, rims, brakes, engine rebuilds, a shlap of the lowering shtick (as we say in Ireland), OEM parts, standard parts, custom parts....you name it, I've broken/bodged/succeeded at it!

I've been thinking for a while now that I could really be cataloguing all of this...past cars, current projects, progress (or lack of!!), so here goes....

This ain't gonna be no definitive guide on what you should do or how it should be done.....it's just my take on what I'm doing, how I'm doing it, and (hopefully) how it all turns out.....

So, feel free to comment, good or bad, on how you think it's turning out........your opinions will be duly noted, taken on board with all earnestness, and much appreciated..............and then probably fuckin' ignored! Ha!
But hey, don't take offense, it's only a bunch of old German cars being dicked around with by some guy in some forgotten corner of a little island on the edge of the Atlantic........don't take it too serious, but do feel free to pop by every now and again and let me know how you think I'm getting on........

I've a stash of old water-cooled veedubs that I'm gonna renovate over time, one-by-one...and this is where I'm gonna record it all for posterity....there will be some basic tech info, hopefully some progress, and definitely lots of profanity when things don't always go to plan.......

that's all for now.....
