Gone but not forgotten......the Mk1's......

The ones that never made it onto the tarmac......

Be warned, I have a habit of naming cars.....for those of you that don't approve, tough..........it's a hobby, with a bit of humour........don't get all het up about it......

''708''....a 1983 Mk1 GTi that I bought as a resto-mod project that got cut short when i had to sell it to fund repair of my fire-damaged Mk2 8valve......now languishing in the buyer's driveway, rotting away untouched since they took her 4 years ago.......man, what a waste.......

''Un-named Mk1''......bought solely for her engine, built by RacePower Motorsport in the UK...I ripped it out and sold on the shell......a dyno proven 160bhp 1.8 8valve lump, over-bored to 2.1litres, with a lightened crank, big valve head and the lumpiest cam I've ever experienced.....she idled like a Harley as if she was gonna stall any moment, but sang like Pavarotti when you gave it a shoe-full of throttle......and torque-steered like a bitch........good fun though! The good news is that this shell is currently being restored elsewhere in Ireland, and is getting a rebuilt 2-litre 16valve powerplant....

That's all for now,

Later,

RV.
